Teach, model, pRactice...repeat

Academic skills must be taught, they aren't naturally caught!

Students aren't little adults - they will need instruction and good modeling of anything and everything that you want them to do on a regular basis in a certain way. This is true of time management, study skills, prioritizing of tasks, social skills, character development, the list goes on and on.

Albert Einstein said, "In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity." This is true of the valleys and hills of education, too! Whatever feels difficult for your child behaviorally or academically right now is not an impossible situation. However, you won't get the results you want by focusing on those results. You will get the results you want by focusing on the habits and behaviors that produce those results.

Ask yourself:

• ​What academic or behavioral goal does your child need to meet?
• What actions and steps will they need to repeat until it becomes a habit, in order to meet the goal?
• What supports will they need? Are you prepared to teach and model the behaviors for them?
